Mouthguards

Mouthguards are essential for protecting teeth, gums, and jaws from injuries during sports or other high-impact activities. They act as a cushion, reducing the risk of dental damage and even helping to prevent concussions by absorbing the force of impacts.

Why should I get a custom mouthguard?

Custom-made mouthguards offer significant advantages over generic options. Designed specifically to fit the individual’s mouth, they ensure maximum comfort and a secure fit, allowing for easier breathing and speaking. Their tailored construction provides superior protection and durability, making them ideal for athletes in high-contact sports. While they are an investment, custom-made mouthguards offer unparalleled safety and peace of mind.

Store bought vs. custom made mouthguards

Store-Bought Mouthguards: These are pre-molded, ready-to-wear mouthguards available at sports stores. They come in generic sizes, which means they might not fit perfectly and can sometimes be uncomfortable. While these provide basic protection, their durability and effectiveness might not match higher-impact needs.

Custom-Made Mouthguards: These are crafted specifically to fit an individual’s teeth and mouth shape by dental professionals. They offer superior comfort, protection, and durability, making them ideal for athletes in high-contact sports. Though they come at a higher cost, their tailored design ensures the best possible fit and safety, significantly reducing the risk of injury.

Types of custom mouthguards

Single Layer Mouthguards: Lightweight and comfortable, these are ideal for non-contact or low-contact sports or children under the age of 6 years with baby teeth. They provide basic protection while ensuring ease of breathing and speaking.

Double Layer Mouthguards: Offering enhanced protection, these are suitable for medium-impact sports or children or teens with permanent dentition. They have two layers, with the outer layer providing durability and the inner layer offering a softer, shock-absorbing cushion.

Triple Layer Mouthguards: Designed for high-impact sports like rugby, boxing and martial arts, these provide maximum protection, aimed towards individuals with permanent dentition. Their robust multi-layer construction ensures superior shock absorption, safeguarding the teeth and jaw during intense physical activity.
